How to mantain hearing aids during summer

The weather is warming up, and it’s time for you to set out and have fun. However, people with hearing loss have their devices to worry about. Unfortunately, only water-resistant hearing aids are available and not waterproof hearing aids. Hearing aids should not expose to moisture and excessive heat. However, summers bring sweat, humidity, and the danger of the water causing damage to the hearing aid while having fun with the water sports. Here are some tips to keep your hearing aids in top condition in summer.

Moisture awareness

Keep your devices moisture-free. If you sweat heavily, wipe your hearing device at regular intervals. The electronic equipment inside the hearing aid is sensitive to water and sweat. Buying sweatbands during outdoor activities could protect your hearing aids from moisture. If you are in a humid place, the dehumidifier could help keep your device dry.

Avoid getting into the sun

Enjoy the hot beautiful sunny day from the shade. If you have to step out, go out in the morning and the evening. Avoid mid-day outdoor activities. When the heat peaks, we sweat a lot. Our sweat could damage the hearing aids.

Leave the battery case

Open the battery doors of your hearing aid. Doing this prevents excess moisture in the battery. Pull out the battery from its slot to ensure the device stays dry.

Use Hearing aid clips

Enjoy your outdoor activities by ensuring your hearing aid is dry. Meanwhile, secure your device by using the clips. These clips ensure your hearing aid is in its place while enjoying a high-octane outdoor activity. You can attach these clippers to clothing or other accessories.

Sanitize your device

Do not apply liquid sanitizer directly to your hearing aid. Sanitize it using anti-bacterial wipes. Disinfect your hearing aid regularly because you don’t want any bacteria deposits in your device. Have antibacterial wipes handy to clean the hearing aid when necessary. Use these wipes to clean the hearing aid every time you remove them and before wearing them.

Avoid water sports with a hearing aid

What is summer fun with cooling off in a swimming pool? Take your devices off, secure them properly and then enjoy your swim. You should remove the device in the shower and during the bath. Your device mechanics are extremely sensitive to moisture and water deposits. So, it’s essential to secure your device in a dry kit before you go to cool off enjoying your favorite water sport.

Get your hearing aid to the hearing aid care center for immediate recovery of the device if it has come in contact with water or moisture.
